Sweetwater Payment Plan

OK, so I am looking into purchasing a new piece of equipment from Sweetwater. I noticed that they offer a payment plan (split into 3 or 4 payments). Have any of the TGP collective used this option from them? What hurdles do they make you jump through? I couldn't find anything about interest...Is there any? Would it be better to just put the item on one of my cards?

Thanks!

Seeing as how they don't take cash from online orders...I would have to put on my cc anyways. Main question is about interest. I can not find anything stating there is interest and on the site the payments seems to equal the posted price...

Just curious why you advise not to finance...I am sure you have great reason(s), but I am not thinking of any (as long as you have the means to cover cost). Please enlighten me (not being sarcastic).

If I needed something immediately I would definitely use a credit card instead of buying on time from one of these companies.

agreed - no advantage to using in-store financing. can't you get a cc with a year of no interest purchases or something? seems like they just give those away.

I've never done it, but my understanding is that they simply bill your credit card in three equal amounts over three months, with no interest applied by Sweetwater. They do charge a flat $10 to do this, however, and they do pull your credit report to determine eligibility.

Exactly, no interest charged. I've done it thru Sweetwater a few times. You get a few months of interest free financing and you don't have to sign up for their credit card either.

This

I just did the same thing with americanmusical same deal

Its a good deal, have done it plenty...three payments, no interest save for a $10. transaction fee. Just make sure you have the space on whatever card you're using for the payments. Gear debt is paid off after three months (assuming you use a debit card) instead of having it linger in minimum payments to a credit card company...I much prefer the customer service from Sweetwater as opposed to AMS/Zzounds though ymmv

Just wished they carried more boutique stuff!

This is the GEAR page, not the Suzy Orman message board. As long as you're responsible, financing gear can be fine.

Lol. I personally haven't tried the payment plan, but if it's anything like the rest of their services, it's probably good. I love Sweetwater. The personalized service and the free shipping, no matter what. Just bought one set of strings today. If I did that on other music sites, the shipping would've cost me almost as much as the strings.

Ive done it twice. No Problems with it and if youre short on funds for a pricey piece of gear its works like a charm! Ive had no problems with payment plans from sweetwater or AMS

Suzy Orman says you can't afford it... In fact she says your done buying gear indefinitely.

I did the payment plan once with Sweetwater, and it worked just fine.

I wouldn't use any payment plan that charges a fee. I can get the same gear numerous other places (almost always for less than Sweetwater) and get financing for a year or more, and pay no fees or interest.

I did it one time purchasing a $2100 Les Paul - it was right around Christmas when they have the mega sales on LPs and I was really worried it would be sold soon, but I really didn't want 2K hanging out on my card around holiday time.

There was a $10 flat fee and it went perfectly smoothly - they billed me like $670/month over 3 months and everything was golden. Of course, I had the money to actually pay for it. So if you're financing it without the ability actually pay the bill I would advise against that.

I financed a guitar on EBay via Bill Me Later. 18 months to pay, no interest if paid by then. It'll be $50 a month to pay it off in time with no interest. Won't even feel it!
